Peace on Earth

I'm sending up prayers to heaven guided by love on the wings of a Peace Dove,
asking for tranquil blessings and protection for all people I care about and love.

I'm born of immigrants and practice in the abstract all people are created equal no matter their race or creed.
Our solidarity and prayers are needed to keep worldwide innocents free from strife, a most urgent plead.

The idealism of a monolithic Islamic state in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has created worldwide terrorism fright.
Their evil path of jihadism is unacceptable as they pass judgmental loathing of Christians in plain sight.

I've always believed love is stronger than hate and will win the "war" with terrorism and shine a peaceful light.
The recent attacks in Paris were horrific and I pledge solidarity as I with empathetic compassion sit down to write...

I'm sending up prayers to heaven guided by love on the wings of a Peace Dove,
asking for tranquil blessings and protection for all the people I care about and love.

  6. Dear Vera, your poem is so touching and moving and just what our hearts need to read right now. Peace Doves to reach the heavens and carry back only the grace God can provide. We pray conviction comes to the hearts of those with evil intent.

  9. We are praying...we so are in need of leadership in Washington...and I must say I highly resented the President saying "the Republicans must be afraid of old women and babies"...it has my tummy churning...we finally turn off news and find something to laugh about. I know God says in the Bible that "there will always be wars and rumors of wars"...we simply must pray and trust in HIM.
Your poem is so nice...you are blessed with a way of words, dear one.

  10. I have been so sad about Paris. I can't even imagine what the people are going through….the grief, fear, sadness, the loss of revenue with so many businesses closed….just so sad.

We were planning a trip for our girls. Our youngest takes French and the oldest is a French minor. The youngest will not even disuse the possibility of going now.

Love has already won in the person of Jesus Christ. I've been praying for protection for our country and our allies. I pray for the Syrians who are victims of oppression and evil. I also pray for leadership because it's lacking in Washington.

Beautiful post. Let's also pray that God will change hearts because he can.

  11. Vera,
So sad the world we live in and the evil that exists. It is hard enough to deal with hatred but even harder to deal with people that do not regard human life as a gift to be honored. So sad. Your words are beautifully written. Thanks for sharing your heart with all of us Vera.

  12. Vera, I am so with you on that. Thank you for this post. But I see as well, that so many people divide in "Good" or "Bad" and "evil", makes me so helpless. Are we really so innocent? Seeing, what was created, what Colonialism did, the Irak war, all evil that did breed other evil. Seing how, every side uses cruelty and lies to feed their greed, the West as well, ohhh, what horror, while nature is the biggest victim of all. And sneeking away, the mighty celebrate their dance.
I think, truth needs to be seen, we all have to understand - instead there is condemnation of so many "religios" people. Yes, that leaves me helpless...
So let´s stay connected, my dear friend, let´s preserve the courage to speak out inconvenient thruths. I wish you a week full of strength and full of this spirit,
as we can be so happy - Lin is safe :)))
Hugs to you, my wonderful Vera, your friend Méa

  13. Oh Vera,
this is sooo matching with your beautyful post. The husband of a victim, Antoine Leiris, wrote a letter to ISIS, why they wonn´t have his hate, why he is so much stronger than all the armys of the world.
    Here is the link: http://www.storypick.com/antoine-leiris-paris-attacks/
This gives me so much hope... Hugs again, Méa

  15. Dearest Vera,

I can sense your sadness, your frustration, and your passion for peace in the world, as I, too, have the same sentiments. I have learned that terrorists are not exclusive, as many may believe, for they terrorize even people of their own race and religion, forcing them to take drastic measures to escape being targets in their own land, and in their desperate effort to do so, end up losing their lives in the process.

Thousands of fleeing Syrians have handed over their life savings to cross into Greece from Turkey, on tiny fishing boats, in the hope of reaching a land of peace, and thousands never made it. Their bodies lie lifeless at the bottom of the Aegean Sea, while others are forced to the coast by choppy waters. Their dream for a new life, without war and violence and terror ended, whatever their final resting place. But there are no cameras to publicize their cruel fate, no outpouring of mass emotion, no letters written to their murderers. Only silence.

I continue to pray for all these lost souls, faceless to me, but their loss is felt, deep in my heart, as I do for those in Paris, and Lebanon, and Mexico, and....

Thank you for your poignant poem. I especially like the first verse, and the imagery of that beautifully graceful Dove of Peace, and I wait for the day when it will be guided back to earth with answered prayers for humanity.

    Love to you,
    Poppy

  21. Dear friend, WOW, what a week. I NEED PEACE on my earth! Work is wild, demanding and am I ever looking forward to summer vacation once again.

Peace is the only gift I want. Peace of mind, knowing that my loved ones and myself are in good health and knowing that we are contributing to LOVING those around us. Peace on earth, freedom from hatred. And we poets, we have much to say, don't we?

  23. I have to agree with BJ... As scripture says " there will always be wars, and rumors of wars" all we can so do as poets is set a fine loving example of who we are and what we stand for as human beings....and your very human side Vear poetically said it all...hitting us below the belt of reality. Being real is most important, making time to love one another is effortless if you have love in you, honest real love.

I adore the love you show Vera, keep writing, if not for others with a hearing ear, for yourself then.
I am inspired by your drive...I will take some quiet time this holiday to inspire myself to write a bit more, get back to more writing and less of what's not important.

    Xx

  26. Oh- yes- Peace on Earth for all of us. I know that war on earth is inevitable...it has been part of life since the beginning of time. I wish we could change it but we most likely will not; and I pray for those poor souls that live in fear and terror every moment of life.

We have been relatively unaffected by what is happening on most levels--caught up in living our daily lives and moving about freely. We look at what is happening and shake our heads and tsk-tsk but, the truth is, we are barely "touched" by it all as we go about our business.

Beautiful poem and sentiment, Vera. Blessings to you. xo Diana

  27. What a beautiful message. It has definitely been hard to watch the news lately. So much fear, violence and grief. Hopefully, the Christmas season will be a reprieve from most of that.

  28. This is beautiful, Vera. You expressed something that's evil and truly sickening in such a gentle way. And that's great because it really is about focusing on peace. Thank you for your words---they express feelings I simply can't seem to make sense of.

I'm happy to hear you are going to try the step toner I found. I've been doing it about 10 minutes a day and I relate get winded! I have a little regimen that I created by using 5 pound weights in each hand just doing simple bicep lifts, butterfly arm raises and lifting the weights from shoulders to a full upward stretch. This is really toning my back and abs as well as getting the cardio workout. I hope you like it.

Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving. What sort of plans do you and John have?
